Using the regenerative properties of your own blood, our double board-certified facial plastic surgeons can revive declining hair follicles and improve the survival of transplanted hair grafts.
By utilizing your own blood, PRP stimulates hair follicles in the scalp to produce a higher quantity and quality of hair. This is one of the many treatment options Dr. Quatela, Dr. Lee, or Dr. Montague can discuss with you during a consultation at our world-renowned hair restoration clinic. We take a comprehensive approach to hair loss that includes surgical and nonsurgical options to accommodate different preferences, lifestyles, and concerns.
The blood contains red and white blood cells, platelets, and plasma. PRP is plasma with a higher-than-normal concentration of platelets. Injected directly into thinning areas of the scalp, growth factors in PRP address hair loss by:
Results vary for each patient; however, PRP therapy has been found to be effective in a variety of medical procedures.
This all-natural, autologous procedure provides people struggling with hair loss many benefits, including:
Since PRP is generated from the patient’s own blood, it’s considered a safe, natural treatment option free from the risks associated with synthetic chemicals or drugs.
Ideal candidates for PRP are adults in good health who are experiencing early hair loss. PRP is similar to fertilizer for crops. It works great if the hair is still there, but it can’t improve the growth of hair that doesn’t exist. If you have significant hair loss, you probably need a hair transplant. During your consultation, we will review your health history, explore your history of hair thinning or hair loss, and determine whether you are a candidate for PRP based on this information. If you are a candidate, you will meet with one of our Patient Consultants, who will review the cost of the procedure and schedule a date for your first PRP procedure.
PRP treatments are nonsurgical office procedures that are safe for you to drive yourself to and from. On the day of the procedure, we take blood from your arm, similar to having lab work done. Next, the blood is spun down in a centrifuge using the EmCyte® system to separate the platelets from the other blood components. Your provider then numbs the scalp in the thinning area with a local anesthetic and injects the PRP directly into the thinning areas of the scalp.

No downtime is required after a PRP treatment. Once the local anesthetic wears off, which may take a few hours, the scalp may be slightly tender, but patients do not experience significant discomfort after the procedure. You should hold off on exercise for the rest of the day.
The price for PRP treatments varies with individual patient needs. You will receive a personalized quote during your consultation if the treatment is right for you.

Explore Our Travel ProgramThe number of treatments depends on the amount of loss and your desired results. PRP can be performed multiple times every couple of months or as a 1-time treatment. At the Quatela Center, we typically perform a series of 4 PRP treatments over the course of a year and then evaluate the results.
PRP, like many hair loss treatments, takes patience. We expect to see a noticeable decline in hair loss right away, followed by a gradual increase in overall hair growth. The hair follicles, which are at different phases at any point in time, need time to go through their growth cycles.
