Follicular unit extraction, also called follicular unit excision, involves carefully removing natural groupings of 1 to 4 hairs (follicular units) from hair-bearing areas of the scalp and meticulously transplanting them one by one to thinning or balding areas. Follicular unit transplantation (FUT) is a hair transplant technique that involves removing a linear strip of the scalp, separating the follicular units, and transplanting them where needed. FUE hair restoration surgery begins with a density count to determine the optimal donor site. Your dedicated hair restoration nurse then shaves the hair in the donor site extremely short and numbs the scalp with a local anesthetic.
During the procedure, you are seated or lying face down or on your side. Once the grafts have been harvested, we numb the recipient site with a local anesthetic. Then, our hair transplant specialists carefully transplant the grafts one at a time. They ensure each graft is transplanted with attention to the natural hair growth angles and patterns.
