Eyebrows are often taken for granted. However, they play a major role in our overall appearance by framing our eyes and contributing to facial expressions. Our team has gained a clear understanding of the importance of eyebrows and has helped many men and women with hair transplants at our Rochester hair restoration center to thicken sparse brows.
Why do eyebrows change?
Eyebrows are a defining facial feature, but they can change over time, not only in color, but also in fullness. Brows can be affected by over-plucking, underlying medical conditions such as hypothyroidism, and chemical treatments like dyes and medications.
Restoring the look of your brows
Several temporary solutions can improve the look of your eyebrows, including:
- Drawing on your brows using eyebrow pencils, gel, or powder: Many people have used this well-known approach, but meticulously drawing on arches can be difficult and time-consuming on an everyday basis. Additionally, these temporary brows can be easily smudged or worn off as you do your daily activities.
- Microblading: This is one of the newest buzzwords in eyebrows. Technicians use a small blade and temporary pigments to draw brows into place. The effects of the procedure will fade over time and typically require touch-ups annually to maintain the look.
- Permanent Makeup: This can provide a good longer-term solution for patients who wish to achieve a certain look with less maintenance. Most people have an annual appointment for a color boost because the brow pigment may slightly fade over time, although it rarely disappears completely.
A drawback to these options is that they may lack a natural look.
Eyebrow hair transplantation—a natural solution
The only truly permanent solution to naturally improve thinning eyebrows is through hair transplantation. To begin the process, Dr. Quatela or Dr. Lee consults with you regarding the eyebrow shape and fullness you desire. Using their years of experience and refined aesthetic skills, Dr. Quatela or Dr. Lee then surgically removes a small amount of hair from a hidden area near the nape of your neck where your hair is finer and closely matches your eyebrow hair.
The neck hair is then blended in with the existing eyebrow hair to produce fuller, natural-looking brows that can last a lifetime. You can trim and groom the brows into the shape you desire. No longer will you have to schedule constant touch-up appointments or wake up early to draw on your brows.
Eyebrow transplantation has been one of the most gratifying procedures at the Quatela Center for Hair Restoration for over 25 years. If you are looking to get your brows back or complete your look, call (585) 244-0323 to speak to a patient consultant or request a consultation online today.
Interesting note: Researchers in the Department of Brain and Cognitive Sciences at Massachusetts Institute of Technology demonstrated the importance of eyebrows in facial recognition. In their study, the researchers showed participants 25 photos of celebrities whose eyebrows were hidden and 25 photos of celebrities whose eyes were hidden. Survey participants were able to identify 56% of the eye-less celebrities, but only 46% of the brow-less celebrities. This interesting result underscores how our brows help make us who we are!
